Lulea

Lulea is the capital of Norrbotten County with a population of 75,000 people. It is home to the country’s seventh largest harbour. We flew into Lulea via Stockholm and used this as a transit point before we continuing on a car journey to Kiruna, Swedish Lapland.

Among the main attractions in Lulea are:

- Lulea Cathedral- constructed in 1893 in Gothic Revival style and originally named Oscar Fredrik Church, it became a cathedral in 1904 when the Diocese of Lulea was established;

- Gammelstad Church Town- located in the town of Gammelstads about 10 km away from Lulea, this church was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1996; and

- Museum of Norrbotten.
