South of Sweden
During the past several years towards the end of August, we would spend a week of holiday, as well as visit family in the southern part of Sweden, between Malmo and Helsinborg. This part of the country is very beautiful during this time of year, with its sand beaches and other summer festivities in the area. A perfect way to relax and end the summer with wonderful and natural surroundings.
From the UK or Europe, you can either fly directly to Malmo and rent a car to drive to where you are staying, or fly to Copenhagen in Denmark (which is a much larger international airport with more choices of flights) and then crossover the 7,845 metre Oresund bridge that connects Sweden and Denmark, by car or train. The distance from Copenhagen to Malmo is about 47 km.
Recommended Airlines
To Malmo: SAS, Lufthansa and Easyjet.
To Copenhagen: SAS, British, Norwegian, Swiss, Lufthansa, Vueling, Turkish, Easyjet and Ryanair.
Recommended Accommodations
We normally rent a cottage close to the sea or on one of the many lakes near Malmo and Landskrona, a smaller city that is situated between Helsinborg and Malmo. There are many charming cottages or villas available for rental in these areas. Some of them are so nice and cosy that you don’t feel the need to go out- just relax and stay in the cottage all day.
Recommended Restaurants
Malmo: Vollmers, Restaurang Genuin, Smak Malmo Konsthall, Bullen Tva Krogare and Arstiderna.
Landskrona: Idas by the Sea, Erikstorps Kungsgard, Why Not Café, Restaurang Pumphuset and Nils Holgersson.
Don’t forget to try Sweden’s famous annual crayfish party with schnapps! A great way to spend your summer days with family and friends.
