NZ Ski Resorts

There are basically three ski resorts in the immediate Queenstown area: Remarkables, Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt. If you venture further outside Queenstown, you can also ski in Cardrona and Mount Cook.

There is no ski-in ski-out hotels on the mountains, but there are regular shuttle buses that depart from central Queenstown to all the ski resorts. We’ve skied in Remarkables and Coronet Peak. But we almost always end up going back to Coronet Peak because there is a particular ski instructor, Tony, who is fantastic with kids and I hire to teach my sons every time we return to Queenstown.

As mentioned earlier, in my opinion Queenstown is the best place for young children to learn how to ski. The resorts are very children friendly and the staff on the resorts, including the instructors, are very warm and patient.

There are plenty of ski runs for all levels of skiers, whether you are beginner, intermediate or an advanced skier or snowboarder. The slopes are not as crowded as in Europe and many runs are quite wide, which is good for a beginner. And the snow has never disappointed us.
