Palace of Whitehall

The Palace of Whitehall used to be the main London residence for British monarchs and centre of government from 1530, prior to being demolished by fire in 1698. It used to be the largest and grandest palace in Europe, boasting 1,500 rooms. It was in this palace that King Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn in 1533 and Jane Seymour in 1536, then later died in 1547. Parts of the palace that still exist today is being used as government offices.
