Historic Sites and State Homes
With a very long and rich history, it is no surprise that England is home to many historic sites and state homes that go back to several centuries ago. Many of them are located right on the outskirts of a major city. For example: Blenheim Palace is situated in Oxfordshire, right outside Oxford, so you can just stay in Oxford and venture out to the palace one afternoon. Many of the state homes around the country continue to be passed on to the next generation, whose family retains residency on the estate.
