Bath

Bath is one of the most beautiful cities in England. Located in Somerset, it is about 97 miles west of London, with an area of 12 sqm. It is rich in history, where it became a spa city around 60 AD when the Romans built baths and temple in the valley of the River Avon. These sites still exist throughout the central area of the city. Then there is Bath Abbey that was founded in 7th century and became a religious centre. Most of old buildings were designed with Georgian style architecture, made from local, golden-coloured Bath stone that date back from 18th and 19th century. The city is also home to Jane Austen, the 19th century English novelist famously known for her six major novels. Prior to 20th century, this city was also a favourite holiday site for London-based aristocrats to spend their summer. Bath is also known as a student town, home to University of Bath and Bath Spa University. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987.
