Sami Siida – Markanbaiki
Sami Siida is a reconstructed camp on the old Sami market place in the village of Jukkasjarvi, about 18 km east of Kiruna. The camp is a temporary housing and workplace for herding families and for outsiders to learn about history and traditions of the indigenous Sami people, as well as their most proud companion- reindeers. The reindeers are trained to pull sleds. There is also a giant lavvu-tent that serves as a café for Sami cuisine where you can settle down and have a meal in front of the open fire. Then there is also the Sami handicraft shop located inside a wooden building where you will also find traditional craftsmanship which mostly use materials such as reindeer horn and leather. It is an interesting experience.
