Christ of Havana
Inaugurated in December 1958, Christ of Havana is a statue of Jesus that is located on La Cabana Hill, next to the city’s harbour. It is 66 feet high and made of Carraca marble brought directly from Italy and blessed by Pope Pius XIII before making its journey to Cuba. The statue was designed intentionally with blanks eyes so that it seems that it could be looking anywhere and appears to be blessing the city. The view from the hill overlooks the entire city of Havana. A few weeks after inauguration in December 1958, Fidel Castro entered Havana during the Cuban revolution in early January 1959.
You can also get a view of the statue from the entrance of Havana Harbour, which also gives you the beautiful view of the mouth of the city’s harbour and Morro Castle from afar.
