St Peters and Paul Church

Located in the city’s North Beach neighbourhood, St Stephen and Paul Church is a Roman Catholic church where it serves the Archdiocese of San Francisco. It originally served as the home church and cultural centre for the city’s Italian-American community, but it now has also become the home for the Chinese-American Catholic community.

The church is also famous because it was prominently featured in the Dirty Harry movies starring Clint Eastwood. It was also on the steps of this church that Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio returned for photographs to be taken right after their civil wedding ceremony. DiMaggio was married to his previous wife in this church. Although they afterwards divorced, he could not remarry in a Catholic church again.
