Metropolitan Museum of Art

Famously known as The Met, this was built in 1874, and designed with a Beaux-Arts style of architecture by Richard Morris Hun, Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. This is the largest museum in the country, stretching from 80th to 84th Streets on the upper east side of Fifth Avenue. The museum’s permanent collection includes the works of art of: classical antiquity and ancient Egypt; African, Asian, Oceanian, Byzantine, Indian, and Islamic holdings; and paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters.
