Windsor
Windsor is a historic market town in Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, 25 miles west of London. It is famously known as the site for Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the royal family and preferred home of Queen Elizabeth II. Constructed in 11th century by William the Conqueror, it was built in Georgian and Victorian style, based on medieval structure with Gothic features reinvented in a modern style. It occupies 13 acres of land featuring a fort, a palace and a small town. It is the longest-occupied and finest palace in Europe. Inside the castle walls is 15th century St George’s Chapel. The castle went through heavy refurbishments after the fire in 1992.
About 3 miles southwest of Windsor Castle is Legoland, a popular child-oriented theme park and resort, themed around the Lego toy system. Opened in 1996 on 150 acres of land, it is the second largest Legoland after the one in Billund, Denmark.
With its short distance from London, it is best to do a day trip by car or train.
