Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace lies in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, about 10 miles northwest of Oxford and 65 miles northwest of London. It is one of the largest houses and the only non-royal non-episcopal country house in England. It was built in baroque style between 1705 and 1722 and was home to theChurchill and later the Spencer-Churchill family for the following 300 years. A notable event that took place was at the end of 19th century, when 9th Duke of Marlborough married American railroad heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt to save the palace from financial ruins. Furthermore, the palace is also believed to be where King Edward VIII, then the Prince of Wales, first met his future American wife Mrs Wallis Simpson. This was also the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. The palace to this day remains the home of the Dukes of Marlborough, the current one being the 12th. This site has been used several times as a film location, among others: Hamlet and Spectre.
