This art museum was established in 1974, and is situated in the fancy neighbourhood of Brentwood, and is made up of the Getty Centre and Getty Villa. Its original location was in Pacific Palisades. In 1982, the museum inherited US$1.2 billion and became the richest museum in the world. It expanded its collection and premises, and by 1997 the museum moved to its current location. The old museum was renovated and renamed the Getty Villa, and displays art from the ancient Greece, Rome, and Eturia.

The Getty Centre displays a collection of Western art from the middle ages to the present. It is estimated that the museum attracts more than 1 million visitors every year, and therefore making it one of the most visited museum in the country.
