Statue of Liberty

Located on Liberty Island in New York Harbour and southwest of Manhattan, Lady Liberty is the iconic symbol of freedom for the country and its people. It is a colossal neoclassical sculpture made of copper, and was designed by French sculpture Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. It was dedicated to the US in October 1886 from the people of France and became a welcoming sight to newly arrived immigrants. There are tour boats that could take you to Liberty island. However public access to the balcony surrounding the torch is prohibited due to safety reasons. Statue of Liberty has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.
