Georgetown
Georgetown was founded in 1751, originally in the province of Maryland. In 1871 the US Congress established a new consolidated government for the District of Columbia, and in 1895 Georgetown became a part of the district. Georgetown is rich with history and is now both residential and commercial, with many restaurants and mid- to high-end fashion stores. It is also home to the main campus of Georgetown University, as well as several residences of foreign embassies.
