Pondok Tanggui
The next morning, on our second day, we journeyed back into the rainforest with the klotok to visit another research centre, Pondok Tanggui, which is not so far from the hotel and is also located within Tanjung Puting National Park.
Pondok Tanggui is a relatively new rehabilitation centre, where they have two daily feedings and one of them is in the morning.
Once again, after being called out by the staff, we quietly watched them swing from tree to tree and slowly descending down to the feeding area.
We did not manage to see the alpha male Doyok. Instead we had the pleasure of seeing Albert having breakfast with his friends.
Again, we can see the mothers carrying their babies and feeding them at the same time.
Since there was no sign of Doyok, Albert managed to have a peaceful breakfast this morning.
When we were watching these orangutans in Pondok Tanggui, we ran into a group of Brazilians philanthropists working for the National Geographic. I asked them what are their rainforests back home like? And one of the ladies immediately answered “Not as nice as what you have here. We do not have the orangutans!”
We are so blessed! Once again, this was one of the best trips I have ever taken and definitely would want to return one day. I just hope that they will still be here when I return. My highest regards to the people working for the Tanjung Puting National Park, Camp Leaky and Pondok Tanggui, as well as our tour guides and staff of the hotel and klotok.
