Komodo Island, Komodo National Park
This is the bigger island that make up Komodo National Park. It has a population of about 1,700 komodo dragons, inhabiting a surface area of around 390 square km. It is also home for deer, water buffalo, banded pigs, cockatoo, civets, and macaques.
Komodo Island has a population of over 2,000 people, and they are mostly descendants of former convicts who were exiled to the island, mainly from the large neighbouring island of Sulawesi. Islam and Christianity dominate the people’s religion on the island.
The waters surrounding Komodo island is also famous for its diving sites.
